The Hall and Oates Web Page Guestbook Archive

(July 11 through October 16, 1996)

I have been thrilled at the hundreds of guestbook entries I've received over the past year. I don't know if Daryl and John visit the page and read them (although I did give them a copy of all the entries prior to August 11th), but I read each one as they are entered. Thanks for making me smile.

Just wanted to say I received my copy of Daryl's "Can't Stop Dreaming" CD yesterday and listened to it for hours on end - I went to sleep well after midnight. I don't want to ruin it for anyone, so I'll say this: if you can, order it! If you love Daryl's voice, you're in for a sophisticated, soulful, and sensual experience! The man and his music are in sync and I'm enjoying every note!

Happy birthday, Daryl. Imagination + Will = Magick, and here's hoping you and the new CD go all the way in '97. If ley lines are invested with a certain presence, a certain magick, then, too, are the people that trace them. Like you.

I HAVE BEEN A MAJOR FAN A LONG TIME. I HAVE CAUGHT THE ACT LIVE FOUR TIMES. NOW IT'S BEEN TOO LONG. THEY HAVE NOT BEEN TO JAX IN AWHILE. THE BEST SHOW WAS IN 1983, I WAS A SENIOR ABOUT TO GRADUATE FROM HIGH SCHOOL. MY BEST FRIEND AND I WENT TO THE SHOW. WE LOVED H&O SO MUCH WE WERE NICKNAMED AFTER THEM. I AM TALL AND BLONDE, SHE IS SHORT AND DARKER SO IT MADE SENSE. ANYWAY AFTER THE SHOW WE WERE ABLE TO MEET THE GUYS. WHAT A GREAT MEMORY. THEY ARE JUST TWO OF THE NICEST PERFORMERS. VERY SWEET TO THEIR FANS. NOW I AM A SENIOR IN COLLEGE, MAJORIING IN PUBLIC RELATIONS, I HAVE MY OWN RADIO SHOW HERE ON CAMPUS CALLED "LOST IN THE 80'S". ALWAYS AN H&O TUNE ON! I WANT TO WISH JOHN AND DARYL ALL THE BEST AND MUCH HAPPINESS. I HOPE THEY'LL MAKE THEIR WAY DOWN HERE SOON AND THAT WE'LL HEAR SOME NEW MUSIC SOON. DARYL IS THE GREATEST SINGER OF ALL TIME. WHAT A VOICE! HE'S A GREAT FLIRT ON STAGE TOO! i WAS GETTING MAJOR ATTENTION BACK IN 1985 WHEN I SAT FRONT ROW. MISS YOU GUYS! BY THE WAY "EVERY TIME YOU GO AWAY" IS MY ALL TIME FAVORITE SONG! I've seen The Daryl Hall Show many times over the past 12 years, and I'm always blown away by the main mans's unbelievably soulful voice, and such an understated attitude-de-cool. Most memorable was the Solo-Acoustic shows of 1992. I caight that show on the last date of the first leg of the US tour in Columbus, Oh., and was totally knocked out. I got to catch it again on the second leg of the US in a tiny showcase club in Cincinnati called Bogarts, following their European bing Tour... The club only holds about 1000 people, and they played about 2 1/2 hours nonstop. I was able to come across a shitty bootleg of the show, but it features the Daryl Hall trademark wailing vocal! Saw them again in the summer opening for "Can You Believe" Carly Simon... Needless to say, the boys were cut back to a one hour show, but it was very cool..left as soon as they were done. I recently got to catch them at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas at the end of August...really wierd surealistic audience, but Daryll was all smiles and exremely "showbizzy-schmoozy-cool", considering how dull & lifeless the crowd in the room was that night...but the boys kicked it! Daryll introduced a new song off the new up coming solo album that was incredible. Again the man did exactly what was expected from him, and more. Hearing the searing gospel rendition of "Everytime You Go Away", was worth the price of admission alone, plus the really cool rambling intro by him. Glad I stumbled across your homepage, and look forward to checking in with you guys more often and getting an advance copy of The Man's new cd. By the way John, if you happen to stumble across this by chance, no disrepect to you is meant by this. I know that you're a important part of the total mix. See you guys around.....Alan

Hi Marc . . . I've got a suggestion. Since some fans already have their copies of Daryl's new album I thought it might be a good idea to set up a special page (like this guestbook page) for people to enter their reviews of and thoughts about the album. Don't know how difficult this would be to do but it seems like a fun idea. Also, this would help to keep the.guestbook page free for other types of comments. Personally, I'm still waiting for my copy (oh well) but I thought that those who have received their copies might have comments to make. Just a thought!!! Keep up the great work on the H & O page . . . I really look forward to reading it.

I can't believe my eyes. I am the biggest preacher of Hall and Oates!! I have many memories that involve H&O but I never realized how many other people have been touched by the Dynamic Duo. I didn't realize this website existed. I even e-mailed New York radio station WPLJ to ask for updates about H&O. All they could tell me was to expect a solo album form Daryl soon. Unhappy with that response I checked VH-1's BIG EIGHTIES to find the best group of the decade. I never expected all of this!! I have almost everything available on CD, record, and tape... but I could never find anything on the Temptones. I'll be watching this site closely. Thanks Matt. JP

I have seen Daryl and John perform like 5 times! Each time, I think they get better and better! I remember when I was about 7 years old, my parents took my sister and I to their concert over in New Haven, Connecticut because my mother was (and STILL is) in LOVE with Daryl Hall. Tacky as it may seem...I actually owned a blue "pleather" skirt, like the pants John Oates had. My mom refused to let me wear them even though I begged and pleaded because I KNEW John would have those darn blue pants on!! Well...after getting lost for 3 hours, we FINALLY got there and low-and-behold...John was wearing his blue "pleather" pants!!! I was soooo mad at my mom. I can laugh now...but to a little kid, it was really important to me!! Any die hard H & O fans...fell free to e-mail me!! I could use a friend who actually doesn't think the 80's suck! Bye!

Those looking to truly capture the esssence of Hall and Oates' music might want to try what a friend and I did a few years ago. We traveled east from Dallas in my car, staying with whatever friends we had along the way in various states. On the way to Boston, we decided to take a two-hour detour and go through Pottstown. Take it from someone who has been there, Pottstown at 3 a.m. with 'Whole Oates' playing, followed with 'Lunchonette' is a truly moving experience for the die-hard Hall and Oates fan. It was almost eerie. I felt at one with the music, the man (Daryl) and with my physical location on earth. It was very invigorating for me, as Hall and Oates album production was in a drought during that time. I plan on going back when I stay for a proper visit.

Just wanted to post here, that I ordered the Daryl Hall solo album from RSI (Rock & Soul International)- the Hall and Oates Fan club URL: (http://www.webspan.net/~rsi1/site/hall_oates.html), and received it earlier this week, let me tell you something, it is a brilliant piece of work---- when this gets out to the mainstream public, it's gonna be big!!! I have never heard Daryl's voice so clear, soulful and refined!!!! I will let you all guess from here, I will work on a review(to give to Marc), but those of you who recently saw Hall and Oates in concert heard one of the cuts of this disc, and got a preview---- Awesome, I must say!!!---- buy it before they're gone!----Enjoy

If you go down a few entries, you'll notice my last entry was cut off. To complete my sentence, we now hold in our posession "The Liberty Concert" and "7 Big Ones." While Daryl's eyebrows scared us a bit during The Liberty Concert, his little dance in the "Say It Isn't So" video is providing us with hours of entertainmment.

I am delighted to see a Hall & Oates Webpage. I've been a dedicated fan since 1973, when I bought the superb 'Abandoned Luncheonette' album. Recently I managed to get hold of some earlier recordings and the songs are lovely. I've always thought that Daryl & John have never recieved adequate recognition in Britain. I think I've set a new record. On a recent road trip, my friend and I listened to Hall and Oates for 10 straight hours. Yes, we've recently refound our love or perhaps psychosis for Hall and Oates. Now that we've returned home, we have spent numerous hours searching local video stores for concerts/videos. Much to our dismay, it took another mini road trip to locate any of this great duo's footage. Happily, we now hold in our posession

We just found your web site and were truly impressed! We were at the Pittsburgh concert as well! We, however, had SECOND ROW seats! The first time in our lives that we were that close for a concert! As Daryl would say ... "SO CLOSE!" They both look great, although we too were disappointed in the song selection. HEY! What about this meet & greet after the concert? What's the secret? We've never formally met them, but a friend of ours did get us their autograph a few years back. We will be visting this site often. Finally, some up to date news on the boys! Thanks!!!

Just so you know, I gave Daryl and John a copy of the guestbook when I was in Pittsburgh for their show, so if you signed before Sept. 11th, they saw it! Unfortunately, I don't have room here to post all the wonderful concert reviews, so I've had to move them. If you have a review you would like me to post, please e-mail me directly at the address below.

Daryl and John were my saviors in a desolate period in my life during a N.Y. to N.C. move in 1981. They kept my heart beating; they permeated my soul. From the moment I heard You Make My Dreams, I was in love with their music and, with the interviews and pics submitted from teen mags, I fell in love with them as well. They are the best thing that ever happened to music, period! The public will be lucky to have them breathe some life back on the airways! My love to you--Julieane

JUST OUT TODAY AUGUST 27 !!!! I'm giving ya'll out there some insight on the latest "official" US releases of Hall and Oate's reissues, thanks to this page, I have been able to keep up with the latest, and share stuff with you!!, I just picked up "Along The Red Ledge" (no lyrics, so see marc's discography) and they remastered Big Bam Boom, believe it or not, I think it sounds cleaner, vocals more defined, But I am so happy to have " Along the Red Ledge" on CD, Have been waiting and looking for the Japanese copy, one of my favs, sounds great, now if they can improve the sound on H20, and Private Eyes, I would be totally happy!! So pick up Along The Red Ledge and Big Bam Boom, this will keep you happy until Daryl's disc comes out!

I do have to say that I was very dissappointed that there were no souviners there for me to buy. But I enjoyed the concert. I have just about every tape that the two of you have made. I am sorry that this time also I missed you in Clear Lake. I always find out too late to buy tickets. I hope that some day that I will get to see you again. I will be looking foward to the day that I will see you again. I have read about your NEW SOLO release. I have already been looking for it. Can't wait!!!!!! See you soon!!!!!!! Thank you for the page. I just discovered it. I had long though that Hall & Oates had broken up. But, thanks to the page, I've learned that they are very much still together. I am a big fan of their's. I have been since i was a kid. Even though i am a Kid of 25 years who loves loud "grunge" Music, I still rate H&O as one of my biggest influences. I wish they would bring on GE smith again on their tour. I would love to be able to play the guitar like he does.

Hi, I love the page! I saw the House of Blues show and loved it. I was right at the edge of the stage and right in front of Daryl so I was a happy girl. The show was fantastic although whenever I see these guys I get a bit depressed afterwards since I always want more! It was lovely to hear Daryl's new song, which I loved. Very catchy, I can't really get it out of my head and I am frustrated since the cd won't come out until next year. Rumor has it that it was finished and he went back and has been remixing forever. I just want the cd! If these guys are coming your way don't miss the show!

My wife and I and good friends saw Hall & Oates at Konocti Field Ampitheatre in Kelseyville, CA on Aug 18th. Hall & Oates were excellent. We were happy to see that T-Bone was playing lead guitar. It was two hours of pure, raw Hall & Oates. But one thing, John Oates needs to grow back his mustache. I have been a Hall & Oates fan as long as I can remember and all I can say is shall always be a Hall & Oates fan.

Hi! I just love this web site! I've been a fan since "Big Bam Boom". I was at the Pine Knob Concert on Aug. 10.Daryl and John sounded and looked great! I miss T-Bone on the bass and G.E. on guitar. When my sister and I left the concert, we heard someone playing "Abandoned Luncheonette" in a van and a group of people were standing around and singing along. I would have liked to have heard "Rockability" from "Ooh Yeah!","Send Me" from "Soul Alone", and "Your Imagination". - These are nice to dance to! Also, "Help Me Find the Way to Your Heart " would have been the "icing on the cake" for me! I would love to meet Daryl and John just to thank them for all of the good music they have given us over the years.

If there is anybody out there who has a copy of "LIVE AT THE APOLLO", you would be my friend for life if you would PLEASE get in touch with me. I have been looking for this tape for the past five years and have just about given up hope. If there is anybody out there who has it, I would be happy to send you a blank tape and pay to have it sent back to me by FEDEX or UPS. The medley that DARYL & JOHN do with DAVID RUFFIN & EDDIE KENDRICKS is literally the hottest piece of live music I have ever heard but, unfortunately, my tape was destroyed in a car accident. If there is somebody out there who could help me (or tell me where I can get the tape or album), I would be EXTREMELY appreciative. Please E-Mail me at TORONTOGUY [at] GNN.COM if you can help. I look forward to hearing from you.
BEST WISHES, MICHAEL
P.S. What a great WEB SITE!!!

Have been a fan of Daryl and John's since I was in high school in the early 70's. Saw them in concert in Albuquerque in the late 70's when their career was at a low. The concert was great. Daryl sang, "Hot Fun in the Summer Time".....wonderful! Soon after, their careers picked up steam again. If only they sold stock in the band....I'd be wealthy. "Soul Alone" is excell ent.

I am soooo proud to see "the hometown guys" have a page dedicated to them! I live in Utah now, but I'm a born and raised Philly princess! The first song by H&O that I owned was "Rich Girl" when I was 10 yrs. old (even then, it described me). But the first albums (remember *vinyl LPs*?) I actually bought, were "Private Eyes" & "No Goodbyes", as a matter of fact, those two are mentioned under my h.s. yearbook picture (blush). My teenage and early college memories are ALL built around Daryl & John. That's the Truth!! When I reminisce about "school days" it *really* means I'm thinking of the guys and all the concerts, radio shows, extended re-mixes (I talked my way into a record store job just so I could buy H&O); and the countless hours of MTV (when it was good!) as I added to my personal H&O video collection! Thanks, Marc, for this page!! It "brings back that lovin' feelin'"!!

I'm a fan since "I Can't Go For That" which became my favorite song and made them my favorite group at the age of six. Fifteen years later and they're still the only group to hold that title!

Marc, Great web page - it's nice to finally have a forum for getting updated info, etc. I've been a fan since - oh, '74 or so - still think they're the greatest! They don't seem to visit this area very oft en, though I was pleased to note from your guestbook that there is at least one other H&O fan in the state of Georgia! Keep up the good work - would like to see the page expanded (more, more, more info!). Looks great, though. Thanks bunches!

I have been listenning to Hall & Oates since I was small, my dad used to listen to them, around 73, and then She's Gone took off, and of course big time in 75/76 with rich girl + Sara Smile-- we used to wear out the 8-track in the car listenning to Bigger than Both of us. Now, I get a lot of flack from people who poo poo their music as pop fluff, but I have everything from them, and I am so glad that I can now listen to their music over and over again (thanks to the Compact Disc!!) I also enjoy Daryl's solo discs and I can't wait for them to come out with something new!! The internet is a great forum for those of us who have particular interests- and "I can go for that!!!"

My very first cassette tape was Private Eyes. Before buying that tape in 1981, I remember very distinctly jamming with a distant cousin to "You Make My Dreams". I was hooked from that moment on. I have followed Hall and Oates avidly ever since. I am excited every time I hear of something new or reissued from them. I hope they continue to make their music for many years to come.
